Multiple sclerosis

Prepare for a conversation with Dr Anup Bende at Shriji Polyclinic.

UNDERSTANDING THE CONDITION

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is a condition in which immune activity damages the protective covering of nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Its course varies between people.

Symptoms to discuss

Visual problems, numbness, weakness, fatigue, imbalance or bladder symptoms can occur. Similar symptoms can have other causes.

How assessment works

Diagnosis considers symptoms, examination and investigations such as MRI; additional testing may be needed. A single symptom or scan finding is not enough on its own.

Treatment approaches

Management can include medicines to modify disease activity, treatment for relapses, symptom management and rehabilitation. Decisions depend on the disease pattern and individual risks.

Prepare for your review

Bring previous prescriptions, investigation reports and your current medication list. Write down when symptoms began and how they affect your daily life. Ask which changes to monitor and when to return for review.

When to seek prompt help

New neurological symptoms deserve medical assessment. Sudden stroke-like symptoms require emergency care.
