Headache & migraine

Prepare for a conversation with Dr Anup Bende at Shriji Polyclinic.

UNDERSTANDING THE CONDITION

Migraine & recurrent headaches

Migraine is a neurological condition that can cause repeated attacks of headache and other symptoms. It can affect work, sleep and daily activities. Not every headache is migraine.

Symptoms to discuss

Throbbing head pain; nausea; sensitivity to light or sound. Some people experience temporary visual or sensory changes called aura.

How assessment works

Assessment focuses on the headache pattern and examination. A diary of attacks, triggers and medicines can help. Tests are selected when the history suggests another cause.

Treatment approaches

Care may combine treatment for attacks, preventive medicines and routines around sleep and meals. Frequent painkiller use can worsen headaches. Discuss your pattern with your clinician.

Prepare for your review

Bring previous prescriptions, investigation reports and your current medication list. Write down when symptoms began and how they affect your daily life. Ask which changes to monitor and when to return for review.

When to seek prompt help

A sudden, exceptionally severe headache, new weakness, confusion or fever with neck stiffness needs emergency assessment.
